New Delhi/Chandigarh/UNI: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) on Monday said that it has filed a petition in Punjab and Haryana High Court against vandalism of its properties by miscreants.
Hundreds of mobile towers of RIL subsidiary-- Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIL)-- had been damaged in Punjab and Haryana by miscreants during the past 30 days.
As per reports, the violence has been taking place as miscreants are under the impression that Reliance will be among the corporate houses which will be benefited from new farm laws against which the farmers are protesting.
The RIL in a press statement said the acts of violence have endangered the lives of thousands of its employees and caused damage and disruption to the communications infrastructure, sales and service outlets run by its subsidiaries in Haryana and Punjab.
The company said it has nothing to do with the three farm laws that are being currently debated in the country, and in no way benefits from them.
Reliance Industries have not done any “corporate” or “contract” farming in the past, and have absolutely no plans to enter this business, a statement said.
Neither Reliance nor any of our subsidiaries has purchased any agricultural land, directly or indirectly, in Punjab and Haryana or anywhere else in India, for the purpose of “corporate” or “contract” farming and have absolutely no plans to do so, the statement added.
The company further said it does not purchase any food grains directly from farmers.
The RIL said it has sought punitive and deterrent action against miscreants and vested interests so that it can run all its businesses smoothly in Punjab and Haryana once again.
Earlier, Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had several times warned the miscreants over vandalism and stated that strict action will be taken against them.
Farmers, mainly from Punjab and Haryana, are protesting against the new farm laws which allows private companies to purchase directly from farmers and promotes privatisation.
