Union Minister Shripad Naik critically injured, wife and secretary killed in road mishap

Ankola (Karnataka)/UNI: Union Minister of State for Defence Shripad Yesso Naik was injured, while his wife and Secretary were killed on the spot when their car overturned at Hosakumbi in Ankola taluk on Monday.

Condition of the Minister was stated to be critical.

Naik was traveling with his wife, driver, and others from Yellapur to Gokarna when the driver lost control over the steering and the car overturned.

Visuals from the accident show the white Toyota in which the minister was travelling lying in a magled state amid bushes.

Minister's wife Vijaya and his Secretary Deepak died on the spot.

Naik has brought to Goa Medical College (GMC) and Hospital for further treatment, sources said. The 68-year-old is a BJP MP from north Goa.

Meanwhile, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that he was shocked by the news of Mr Naik being injured in the accident.

In a tweet in Hindi, Mr Singh said he had spoken to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and state government was making arrangement for treatment of Mr Naik.

Media reports said Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to ensure proper arrangements for Mr Nayak's treatment.
