Kolkata/IBNS: Actor Saurav Das on Friday joined the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, at a time several ruling party members are switching their sides.

Das joined the Trinamool in presence of party secretary general Partha Chatterjee.

"I started acting to fulfill my father's unfulfilled dream of becoming an actor. My father had done students' politics. So I have joined politics also to fulfill another dream of my father," Das said.

"As long as I am with Didi (Mamata Banerjee, Trinamool chief) and the Trinamool, I will work for people," he added.

Das, who is a popular face on television and digital platform, was last seen in web series Charitraheen 3 starring opposite Swastika Mukherjee.

Days ago, former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) joint secretary Biswarup Dey had joined Trinamool.

West Bengal will plunge into an electoral battle in April-May as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is aiming to unseat the Trinamool to wrest power in the state for the first time.
