Congress-AIUDF hits back at Home Minister Amit Shah over illegal immigrants issue
Guwahati/IBNS: Opposition Congress and Badruddin Ajmal-led All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) have lashed out at Union Home Minister Amit Shah and said that, BJP-led government has facilitated and welcomed infiltrators to Assam.
While addressing a public rally ‘Vijay Sankalp Samaroh’ in Assam’s Nalbari Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that Congress and Badruddin Ajmal will open all doors for illegal immigrants to Assam.
Shah also said that only the BJP government under leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi can stop the inflow of illegal immigrants to Assam.
Reacting to Shah’s statement, AIUDF general secretary Aminul Islam said that, as the Home Minister of the country this type of statements are not suited in the mouth of Amit Shah.
"He is the Home Minister of the country. He is also the responsible man to stop illegal immigrants from flowing into the country. Actually the Modi-government has opened the doors for the infiltrators on a religious basis. They have legalized all infiltrators who came into Assam after 1971.
"They have also opened the way for the infiltrators who want to come here by passing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). They have fixed a cut off date as December 31, 2014, but how they will identify the persons who came up to December 31, 2014. We don’t know where the religious persecution question has gone missing,” Aminul Islam said.
The AIUDF leader said that, actually BJP has welcomed the infiltrators and they have legalized them on a religious basis by bringing the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and they have now blamed the Congress and AIUDF party.
"You are in power and destroying the country’s economy. India’s GDP growth has now dropped below Bangladesh’s GDP growth and the country's per capita income has also fallen down. Now the question is, why will the people of Bangladesh come here? Bangladesh’s economy is now much better than India. Congress and AIUDF’s stand is clear that, we are following the Assam Accord, but you have null and void the Assam Accord,” Aminul Islam said.
On the other hand, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has also reacted over Amit Shah’s statement and said that, the people of Assam now know the truth that how the BJP was playing with them by making false promises.
APCC president and Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora said that the updation process of National Register of Citizens (NRC) is being continued in Assam under monitoring of the Supreme Court.
"After publication of the final list of NRC from where 19 lakh people were left out, your Home Ministry doesn’t do anything to identify the illegal foreigners among those 19 lakh. After direction of the Supreme Court, the process of appealing to the foreigners’ tribunal by the people who left out from the NRC final list is yet to be started. What is the step taken from yourself to accept the NRC, because the decades long illegal foreigners issue of Assam is engaged with the NRC," Ripun Bora said.
Ripun Bora claimed that more illegal foreigners were deported from Assam and the country during the Congress-led UPA government.
"From 2014-2017 during the Modi-government, 1822 illegal foreigners were deported from the country. But during the UPA regime from 2005-2013, 82728 illegal foreigners were deported. Your lie will not be lasted anymore. You will not be able to make the people of Assam fool forever. In 2013 during the Tarun Gogoi-led government, a total of 5234 foreigners were deported from Assam, but in 2017 during the present Sonowal-led government the figure is only 51,” Ripun Bora said.
"In this way, will BJP be able to solve the illegal foreigners issue in Assam? By defying the Assam Accord, the BJP government has welcomed the infiltrators by bringing the CAA. Union Home Minister Amit Shah should give the answers," Ripun Bora said.
