India says acquittal of Daniel Pearl killer truly demonstrates Pakistan's intent on taking action against terrorism
New Delhi/IBNS: India today said the release of Omar Saeed, convicted in the beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002, by Pakistan’s Supreme Court reflects Pakistan's intent on taking action against terrorism.
"I had mentioned earlier about the very low conviction rate in Pakistan when it comes to sentencing of terror accused," MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said in weekly media briefing today.
The court also dismissed an appeal against Ahmad Saeed Omar Sheikh's acquittal by Pearl’s family and the Pakistani government.
"This case truly demonstrates Pakistan’s intent on taking action on terror front. It is a travesty of justice not to find Omar Saeed guilty of any charges in this heinous act of terror," he stated.
"Our position on Pakistan taking sustained, verifiable, credible and irreversible action against terrorism and terrorist funding emanating from all territory under its control remain unchanged," Srivastava said reiteratng India's stand on Pakistan-supported terrorism.
