Bengal BJP apologises to Saayoni Ghosh over parliamentarian Saumitra Khan's comment
Kolkata/IBNS: The West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday apologised to Bengali actor Saayoni Ghosh on behalf of party parliamentarian Saumitra Khan, who had passed an outrageous comment on the film artist.
Targeting Ghosh and her colleague Debolina Dutta, Khan had said, "I want to tell Saayoni Ghosh that you are doing a drama by protesting in Dharmatala (downtown Kolkata). Some actors are saying they would eat beef during Durga Puja... Those who have insulted our Shivling and goddess Manasha are the real sex workers."
Condemning the comment, BJP chief spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, "Me on behalf of the entire party is apologising for the remark. This cannot even be remotely a criticism by the party or an individual."
Thanking Bhattacharya, Ghosh wrote on Facebook, "Looking forward to a better mindset and a greater sense of purpose."
Earlier Ghosh was found in the midst of controversy over an old tweet which featured Shivling with a condom.
Former Tripura Governor and BJP leader Tathagata Roy had also filed a case against Ghosh, who is known for her outspokenness.
Condemning the BJP leaders' attack on Ghosh and also Dutta, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said recently in a rally, "They are giving rape threats to Debolina Dutta and Saayoni Ghosh! I challenge them to even touch and then they would understand who Mamata Banerjee is."
