Centre says Clause 6 report of Assam accord is under examination of Assam Govt
Guwahati/UNI: Centre today said that the Clause six report of Assam accord submitted by a high-powered committee is under the examination of the Assam government.
This was informed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in a statement in the Parliament.
“The high-level committee for implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Accord, headed by Justice (Retd) BK Sharma, submitted its report to the Assam Government.
The recommendations are under examination,” Minister of State for Home Affairs, G Kishan Reddy informed the Parliament.
Notably, it has been over a year now that the high-power Clause 6 panel had submitted its recommendations to the Assam Government.
The recommendations were supposed to be handed over to the Centre directly by the Assam Government without examining.
However, even after over a year the Clause 6 report is yet to reach the corridors of Delhi.
The high-power committee for implementation of Clause 6 of Assam Accord had submitted its report to the State Government in February 2020.
Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in September last year had informed that Home Minister Amit Shah wanted the report to be examined by the Assam Government because “the recommendations require constitutional and legal changes”.
