Delhi HC notice to NHRC, Manipur govt over alleged extrajudicial killings case
New Delhi/UNI: The Delhi High Court on Friday sought response of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Manipur government over a petition challenging an order passed by the human rights body related to the alleged extrajudicial killings of two persons in the northeastern state.
The single bench of Justice Prathiba M Singh was hearing the plea filed by human rights activist Suhas Chakma challenging an order passed by the NHRC in September 2020 with relation to the alleged extrajudicial killings of two people by a combined force of Manipur Police commandos and 16th Assam Rifles in Imphal, the capital of Manipur on January 21, 2009.
While issuing notices to both the respondents, the bench also directed them to file a detailed affidavit in this regard.
The bench also sought response from Manipur government to indicate the steps taken by it to implement the NHRC's March 5, 2020 direction to pay Rs five lakh to the victims' family members.
The court posted the matter for April 22 hearing.
