Kolkata/IBNS: Bengali actor and popular face on television, Yash Dasgupta, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in poll-bound West Bengal on Wednesday.

Dasgupta, who was seen in various rallies of BJP’s adversary Trinamool Congress earlier, was inducted into the saffron party in presence of senior leaders Kailash Vijayvargiya, Mukul Roy and Swapan Dasgupta.

Joining the saffron camp, Dasgupta said, “Since I am young, my focus is on youth and the BJP always believes in and gives an opportunity to the young generation. So I joined the BJP.”

“Politics is not bad but it is about bringing a change. I always believe to change the system, one needs to be a part of the system,” he added.

Dasgupta, who gained popularity by featuring in Bengali daily soap Bojhena Shey Bojhena, has been a part of a number of Bengali films including the ones where he starred opposite actor-turned Trinamool MPs Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan.

Ahead of the crucial state polls, which are just weeks away, both the Trinamool and BJP are inducting various film personalities and celebrities to their respective camps, turning the elections more eventful.
