Congress starts ‘Save Assam’ yatra by aiming to oust BJP from power

Guwahati,/IBNS: Ahead of the assembly polls, the opposition Congress has taken up Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019 (CAA) as a core poll issue and started a massive campaign called ‘Assam Bachao’ (Save Assam) yatra across the state.

By aiming to oust BJP from power, the opposition Congress is aiming to visit all the 126 assembly constituencies in the state by this month.

The leaders of the Assam Congress have so far visited about 50 assembly constituencies.


The Congress party leaders led by Deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Gaura Gogoi, its MP Pradyut Bordoloi, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora, All India Mahila Congress president Sushmita Dev, its MLA Debabrata Saikia, Rockybul Hussain will visit and interact with the all stakeholders like as NGOs, organizations, civil society groups, general public of the state and will take their opinions about the party manifesto for the upcoming assembly polls which is scheduled in April-May this year.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that his party has started a bus yatra called ‘Come Let’s Save Assam’ in four parts of Assam to spread the message and to spread the awareness about the anti-CAA movement and other issues like unemployment, price hike, economic distress etc.

“We have not forgotten the anti-CAA movement where lakhs of children, young people, women, elderly came out to protest against CAA. We will stand with the people of Assam,” Gogoi said.
