Assam cabinet approves hike of daily wage of tea garden workers by Rs 50
Guwahati/IBNS: Ahead of the assembly polls in the state, the BJP-led Assam government has approved to hike the daily wage for the state’s tea garden workers by Rs 50.
The Assam cabinet chaired by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday approved a daily wage hike of Rs 50 for the tea garden workers of the state and the new wages of the tea garden workers will be Rs 217.
The Assam cabinet which was held at the official residence of the Assam Chief Minister had taken the decision after formal talks between the tea gardens owner, workers union and the sub-committee of the state government.
Assam Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said that the state cabinet had approved a daily wage hike for the tea garden workers of the state by Rs 50.
“Now the tea garden workers will get the daily wage of Rs 217. Earlier they had received Rs 167. Our government had earlier increased the daily wage for the tea garden workers of the state by Rs 30,” Chandra Mohan Patowary said.
The Assam cabinet also gave its nod to a proposal of constituting a one-member committee for fixing an equal wage of small tea garden workers and the principal secretary of the state labour department J B Ekka will be the only member of the committee.
On Feb 4, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in a public meeting held in Sivasagar that his party will give Rs 365 to every tea garden workers of Assam as a daily wage if they come to power in the state.
The Assam cabinet has also approved of the creation of a new department: Department for Welfare of Bodoland, to continue Hills Areas department, allotted 239 bigha of land to Srimanta Sankaradeva University at Hatichung in Nagaon district subject to de-reservation procedure of VGR, purchase of 8000 wheelchairs for the purpose of forthcoming general elections and other uses thereafter.
