I am not afraid of anyone threatening me: Mamata Banerjee dares BJP
Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister challenged the Bharatiya Janata Party and said she is not afraid of anyone threatening her.
"As long as there is life in my body, I am not afraid of anyone threatening me, it is not so easy to break my spine," she said.
Mamta made these remarks just before the CBI had issued a notice to Trinamool Youth President Abhishek Banerjee's wife Rujira.
Addressing the Central Government, Mamata said, "Some leaders of Delhi have said that we know very well how to break the backbone of Bengalis. We'll say, don't try. You already have tried many times so far."
"Don't scare us by showing your intimidating jail threat," she said.
Addressing the people, she said, "I assure you, as long as there is life in my body, I am not afraid of anyone threatening me".
She said," Do not come to hurt the emotions of Bengal."
Raising the slogan 'Khela Habe' which has been trending across the state recently, she said from the stage of Bhashadibas, "There will be only one game in 2021 and I will be the goalkeeper. Let's see how many goals they can score? We have not learned to lose."
The BJP and the TMC are engaged in a tough battle to win sets in the West Bengal Assembly polls.
Meanwhile, a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday afternoon visited the Kolkata residence of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee, and served a notice to his wife, Rujira Naroola Banerjee, in connection with its ongoing probe into an illegal coal mining case, sources said.
According to sources in the central probe agency, the notice has been served to Rujira Banerjee under CrPC section 160 (attendance of witness) where she has been asked to appear before the agency as a witness for interrogation.
A senior CBI officer said that neither Abhishek Banerjee nor his wife was present at the house when a team of five sleuths of the investigation agency visited the location.
"Our men provided a contact number and asked to call us whenever Rujira Naroola Banerjee returns," the official said.
Besides CBI, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is also probing the recently unearthed illegal coal mining racket and searching for influentials' involvements.
