Covid-19: Bihar govt gives Rs 71 lakh subsidy to distressed weavers
Patna/UNI: Bihar Industry Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain today said the government has sanctioned Rs 71.20 lakh as subsidy to 712 weavers, who have been affected by the lockdown enforced during COVID-19 pandemic in the state.
Replying to a short noticed question of Bhagalpur Congress MLA Ajit Sharma during the pre-lunch sitting in the state assembly, Mr Hussain said each beneficiary will get Rs 10,000 and the amount will be transferred to their bank accounts by tomorrow or day after tomorrow.
He said the weavers were facing constraints due to the cancellation of orders during Covid-19 pandemic and were unable to get fresh orders.
On February 26 this year, the government directed to pay subsidy to the distressed weavers, taking note of their difficulties, he stated.
The minister in his reply admitted that the lockdown in the state adversely affected the weaving business, and keeping this in mind, the process for providing working capital for the welfare of the weavers active in the financial year 2020 - 21 is in progress.
