Tata Group Ratan Tata pays tribute to Tata Group founder Jamsetji Tata on his 182nd anniversary
Jamshedpur/IBNS: Tata Sons, Chairman Emeritus, Ratan Tata paid tributes to Tata Group founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata on his 182nd birth anniversary in the steel city.
Homage to the founder was also paid on Wednesday by over 30 contingents representing various divisions and departments of Tata Steel and Tata Steel group companies at the Works Main Gate inside the Tata Steel premises in Jamshedpur.
In 1868, Jamsetji Tata founded the Tata Group as a private trading firm. Tata Iron and Steel established by him is considered as the oldest industry in India.
He chose Jamshedpur in Jharkhand as the location for his steel industry. It was in 1919 that Lord Chelmsford renamed the city as Jamshedpur to honour him.
Ratan Tata took to social media to share some highlights of the celebrations, which was a low key affair this year due to Covid-19 pandemic.
"My best wishes to all the Tata group companies, the employees & their families on the birth anniversary of our founder, Mr. Jamsetji Tata, who has inspired us with his kindness over the years," Ratan Tata wrote.
He also remembered legendary JRD Tata, his mentor, on the occasion, sharing an old photo of them standing in front of a statue of Jamsetji Tata.
"This founder's day celebration has special feelings and emotions for me, reminding me in so many ways of my mentor Mr. JRD Tata," he said.

He shared some more pictures in his Instagram stories where he was seen paying floral tributes to the founder of Tata Group.
"The spirit to pay homage to the Founder was intact and there were few programmes, albeit with limited physical participation, organised to mark the occasion. The Founder`s Day celebrations at Jamshedpur Works was also live streamed for employees as well as for a select group of Jamshedpur citizens,"a statement from Tata Steel said.
The Founder’s Day celebrations were organised across the Tata Steel’s plant locations and offices. At the Kalinganagar Plant, the event included march-past and flower tribute to the founder.
The illumination at the Founder's Statue in Jubilee Park was inaugurated by N Chandrasekaran, Chairman Tata Sons, where he along with other dignitaries also paid homage to the Founder. In view of the pandemic, there was limited lighting of the Park to avoid public gathering. Over a dozen heritage buildings and 30 plus roundabouts across Jamshedpur will be illuminated for the period - March 2 to March 5, 2021.
