UP: Rape victim's father killed in road accident two days after filing FIR
Kanpur/IBNS: The father of a 13-year-old girl, who was allegedly gangraped by three men in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur two days ago, died in a road accident near the hospital where she was taken for medical examination, said media reports.
Two accused in the case have been identified as Deepu Yadav and Saurabh Yadav, sons of a sub-inspector posted in the Kannauj district, about 100 km from Kanpur, said an NDTV report, adding that another accused Golu Yadav has been arrested.
The girl's family has said the police are acting in complicity with the accused and ever since they have filed a rape case the family of the accused has been threatening them, the report stated.
The father of the man who died in the accident said his son was murdered and alleged that the police are siding with the accused. Another family member of the victim's family told the reporters on Tuesday that as soon as they filed a complaint, the elder brother of the main accused threatened them saying that they would commit the same brutality and mentioned that their father was a sub-inspector in UP Police, the report stated.
Dr Preetinder Singh, Kanpur Police chief, said in a video statement earlier today that the father of the victim had stepped out for a cup of tea while the medical examination was on. But, he was hit by a truck and was rushed to a Kanpur hospital but he died. An accident case has been filed, the report said.
Brijesh Shrivastava, a senior police official in Kanpur told NDTV that the police acted as soon as a case was filed by the victim's father and added that five teams have been formed to investigate the case.
Amid massive outrage, the Uttar Pradesh Police in a tweet directed Kanpur Police to carry out swift and unbiased investigations in both the cases. It also directed to recover the truck involved in the accident and arrest the driver.
