Priyanka slams Yogi over women's security in UP, questions 'Mission Shakti' campaign
Lucknow/UNI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Wednesday attacked the Uttar Pradesh government over the issue of women’s safety and questioned Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's ‘Mission Shakti’ as several incidents of crime against women have surfaced in the state while their relatives were threatened, bullied and killed.
She said the Mission Shakti drive is a "false propaganda" of the Adityanath government which is spending huge sums of money on publicity to hide its failure on law and order.
The Congress leader's attack comes a week after the killing of a farmer in Hathras who had tried to lodge a police case in the molestation of his daughter, and the death of the father of a 13-year-old girl who was raped by three men in a village in Kanpur two days ago.
Chief Minister Adityanath launched ‘Mission Shakti’ campaign, focusing on the safety and dignity of women and girls, with a stern warning that perpetrators of crimes against women will be dealt with an iron hand.
Hitting out at the government, on Wednesday, Priyanka Gandhi tweeted: “Will the Chief Minister of UP bother to tell how successful his Mission Shakti is? Because news reports on crimes against women and safety of their kin from UP are saying that UP is not safe for them at all. Yet another rape victim’s father has been killed in Kanpur.”
Last week, the Congress general secretary-in-charge UP had lambasted the BJP over alleged rise in incidents of crime in Uttar Pradesh.
"The father of a girl who did not take back a case of molestation was murdered in Hathras. The body of a girl, who had been missing for several days in Bulandshaher, was found buried in a house," Priyanka Gandhi said, citing hair-raising incidents of crime against young girls and women in the BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh. .
"Contrary to the UP government's false propaganda on crime, everyday one family or the other is screaming for justice," she said.
Priyanka Gandhi and other Congress leaders have been attacking the Yogi Adityanath government over the law-and-order situation in the state, alleging that criminal activities are rampant, a claim denied by the state government.
