Bengal polls 2021: BJP fields Mamata's Singur movement commander Rabindranath Bhattacharjee
New Delhi/Kolkata/IBNS: The four-time TMC MLA from Singur assembly constituency and Mamata Banerjee's commander in 2008-09 Singur movement, Rabindranath Bhattacharjee, has become the 'face' of the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) in Singur in the forthcoming West Bengal polls.
The BJP on Sunday declared that Rabindranath Bhattacharjee, who recently joined the party from TMC after his name was dropped by Mamata Banerjee from the candidates' list, will contest the assembly election from Singur seat.
The 88-year-old leader will take on his former colleague, TMC's Becharam Manna, and CPI-M's youth face Srijan Bhattacharya in the important constituency.
After he was declared as a BJP candidate, Rabindranath Bhattacharjee said, "My age is not going to be a factor in the polls, and I will be actively holding election-campaigns from tomorrow (Monday)."
Meanwhile, a section of BJP workers staged a protest in Singur demanding that the party must change Rabindranath Bhattacharjee as the candidate.
