Kolkata/IBNS: A day after the Election Commission of India (ECI) removed West Bengal's Director of Security, IPS Vivek Sahay, over the incident in Nandigram in which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was injured, another IPS officer, Gyanwant Singh, was on Monday appointed as the new chief of the CM's security, officials said.

Gyanwant Singh, who was posted as the state's Additional Director Security, will be in the rank of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP).

Earlier on Mar 10, Mamata Banerjee alleged that four-five people intentionally manhandled her in Nandigram and she had suffered injuries to her left leg.

Claiming it was a 'pre-planned deep-rooted conspiracy' against Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress had moved to the ECI.

Though the commission later ruled out the allegation of the attack on Mamata Banerjee and called the incident an 'accident' as the crowd went 'too closer' to the CM.

After finding there was a lapse in the Chief Minister's security during the Nandigram incident, the ECI on Sunday removed the state's Director of Security Vivek Sahay as well as East Medinipur District Magistrate Vibhu Goel and Superintendent of Police, Pravin Prakash.

The commission had also directed Bengal Chief Secretary to appoint a new Director of Security immediately in consultation with the DGP.
