7 millionaire ministers of Sonowal cabinet in fray for 1st and 2nd phase of Assam polls
Guwahati/IBNS: Seven out of eight ministers of the Sarbananda Sonowal cabinet are among the crorepati candidates who are contesting in the first and second phase of Assam assembly polls.
Out of the seven millionaire ministers, five minsters – Naba Doley, Ranjit Dutta, Atul Bora, Keshab Mahanta, Jogen Mahan are contesting in the first phase of poll and two other minister – Pijyush Hazarika and Parimal Suklabaidya are contesting in the second phase of poll.
State’s Sports minister Naba Doley has emerged as the richest minister among the eight ministers and he has revealed through the affidavit filed with the nomination papers from Dhakuakhana constituency that the current value of his total assets is around Rs 25.52 crore.
On the other hand, state’s Irrigation department minister Ranjit Dutta who is contesting from the Behalf constituency stated that the current value of his total assets is worth Rs 6,02,78,496.
State’s junior health minister Pijyush Hazarika who is contesting from the Jagiroad constituency, declared that the current value of his total assets is worth Rs 6,03,86,621.
In the affidavit, Pijyush stated that his movable assets are worth Rs 4,27,36,621 and immovable assets are worth Rs 1,76,50,000.
In 2016, Hazarika declared that he had total assets worth Rs 2,33,09,284.
Sstate’s Forest minister Primal Suklabaidya has also listed his name in the millionaire candidate list this time.
In the affidavit, Parimal Suklabaidya who is contesting from Dholai constituency stated that the current value of his total assets is worth Rs 1,66,92,620.
In 2016, Parimal Suklabaidya declared in his affidavit that, he had total assets worth Rs 37,92,224.
Other millionaire ministers who are contesting in the first and second phase of polls are – AGP president and state’s agriculture minister Atul Bora, party’s working president and state’s water resources minister Keshab Mahanta, BJP minister Jogen Mahan.
A total of 101 crorepati candidates including 30 sitting MLAs of BJP, Congress, AGP are in fray in the first phase of assembly polls for 47 constituencies in the Upper Assam, Northern Assam and parts of central Assam’s Nagaon district.
Among the crorepati candidates, AGP’s sitting MLA Naren Sonowal who is contesting from Naharkatia constituency, has emerged as the richest candidate with declared assets worth Rs 33.88 crore.
The assembly polls in the state will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6.
