Bengal assembly election: ECI removes four IPS, one IAS from poll duties
New Delhi/Kolkata/IBNS: Two days ahead of the first phase of West Bengal assembly polls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday removed one IAS and four IPS officials in Bengal with immediate effect from all election-related duties till the end of the polls, officials said.
According to reports, four IPS officers, including ADG West Zone Sanjay Singh, SP Diamond Harbour Avijit Banerjee, SP Cooch Behar K. Kannan and DCP south Kolkata Sudheer Kumar Neelakantam, and DEO Jhargram, IAS Ayesha Rani, have been transferred out.
The ECI order copy also read that IAS Ayesha Rani has been attached to the office of Chief Secretary West Bengal till the completion of the elections.
The Election Commission has appointed IPS Rajesh Kumar as ADG West Zone, IPS Arijit Sinha as Diamond Harbour SP, IPS Debashish Dhar as Cooch Behar SP, IPS Akash Magharia as DCP south Kolkata and IAS Joyoshi Das Gupta as DEO Jhargram.
