CAA will be implemented in Kerala if BJP voted to power: Piyush Goyal
Kochi/IBNS: Union minister Piyush Goyal has said if voted to power the BJP-led government in Kerala will implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 and assured that it will not hurt anybody living legitimately in the state, reported news agency ANI.
The railway minister also slammed chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan-led Kerala over issues of corruption and for allegedly failing to protect the Hindus in the state.
“The issue today in Kerala is the corruption of LDF, gold scam, persecution of Hindus,” the minister was quoted as saying by ANI in Kochi.
Goyal's remark comes days ahead of assembly elections in Kerala in response to the state government's decision last Friday to launch a judicial probe against the Enforcement Directorate (ED) accusing it of implicating Vijayan in the gold smuggling case.
BJP leaders like defence minister Rajnath Singh and national president JP Nadda have lambasted the Kerala government for challenging the federal structure.
Singh called the judicial probe order by the state government an "unfortunate development" and questioned the decision.
The railway minister said the Centre was keen on implementing Sabrimala rail connectivity project but doubted if the LDF government will allow its implementation.
“When I see the state of various rail projects in Kerala, I wonder if they (state government) will ever allow Sabarimala to be connected,” Goyal was quoted as saying in the report.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh asserted that CAA was necessary to safeguard the interests of minorities who fled Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan fearing persecution and sought refuge in India. However, CM Pinarayi Vijayan claimed that the defence minister's statement challenged the safety of the minority community in the state.
Kerala will vote to elect a new assembly in a single phase on April 1 and the votes will be counted on May 2.
