Mumbai/IBNS: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar was on Tuesday hospitalised in Mumbai after the senior politician complained of abdominal pain, his party informed this evening.

The 80-year-old former Union Minister was scheduled to be hospitalised on Wednesday for undergoing an endoscopy and surgery.

"Attention please, our party president Sharad Pawar saheb was supposed to be admitted in hospital for endoscopy and surgery procedure tomorrow, but since he is experiencing some pain again in the abdomen, he is admitted in Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai today," NCP leader Nawab Malik tweeted.

The NCP supremo has been diagnosed with gall bladder disease and needs surgery, his party had informed on Monday.

Malik said the senior leader felt pain in the abdomen on Sunday, following with he went for a check-up where doctors found stones in his gall bladder.

Pawar's hospitalisation comes amid a major crisis in Maharashtra's ruling coalition 'Maha Aghadi Vikas' comprising the Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress.

The 14-month-old government led by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray is under unprecedented pressure over the Mukesh Ambani bomb scare case, in which NCP leader and state Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has been alleged to have indulged in corruption.
