Covid-19: PM Modi chairs high-level meeting as India records 93,249 new cases in last 24 hrs
New Delhi/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is chairing a high-level meeting on Sunday to review the recent upsurge in Covid-19 cases as well as the vaccination drive across the country.
All senior officers, including the Cabinet Secretary, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, the Health Secretary are participating in the meeting, said reports.
Meanwhile, India recorded a whopping 93,249 fresh Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours, taking the country's overall tally to over 1.24 crore.
This is the highest single-day spike since September 19, when 93,337 cases were recorded.
During this period, 513 deaths were recorded taking the fatality toll to 1,64,623.
As per the Union Health Ministry data, 1,16,29,289 people have recovered so far while the active cases stand at 6,91,597.

More than 7.44 crore people were administered vaccine doses in the country till Saturday.
These include 89,53,552 Healthcare Workers (HCWs) who have taken the 1st dose and 53,06,671 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 96,19,289 Frontline Workers (FLWs) (1st dose), 40,18,526 FLWs (2nd dose), 4,57,78,875 for more than 45 years old(1st Dose) and 7,65,354 for more than 45 years old (2nd dose).
"Total 13,00,146 vaccine doses were given till 8 pm today, the Seventy Eighth day of nationwide COVID19 vaccination. Out of which 11,86,621 beneficiaries were vaccinated for 1st dose and 1,13,525 beneficiaries received 2nd dose of the vaccine as per the provisional report. Final reports would be completed for the day by late tonight," a Union Health Ministry statement said.
