Bihar cop visiting West Bengal for investigation lynched by mob in Uttar Dinajpur
Uttar Dinajpur/West Bengal/IBNS: A senior Bihar police official, who came to West Bengal to investigate a bike theft case, was reportedly beaten to death by a local crowd at Panjipara village under Goalpokhar Police Station limits in West Bengal's Uttar (North) Dinajpur district on Friday midnight.
According to reports, Senior House Inspector (SHO) of Kishanganj Police Station in Bihar, Ashwini Kumar (50), had ventured into neighbouring Panjipara to conduct raids in connection with a bike theft case registered in Bihar's Kishanganj PS and had sought assistance from the local police.
During the raid, a local mob suddenly gheraoed the Bihar police team and attacked them.
SHO Ashwini Kumar was beaten up with sticks and rods by the crowd while other members of the investigating team somehow managed to escape the area.
Later the police officer was rescued and rushed to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Later on Saturday morning, officials of Uttar Dinajpur Police as well as Bihar Police force, including Purnia Range's IG Suresh Prasad, visited the scene.
Local police have initiated a probe into the matter and arrested three persons so far in connection with the case, reports said.
