Kolkata/IBNS: Iconic Bengali poet Shankha Ghosh, who had tested positive for Covid-19, died on Wednesday.
He was 89.
Ghosh had reportedly tested positive a few days ago.
He was under medical treatment at home.
A poet and a critic, Ghosh had won a number of awards including Jnanpith Award in 2016.
Some of the poems he had written were Dinguli Raatguli, Nihito Patal Saya, Gota desh jora joughar, Kabir abhipray, Babarer prarthana.
He was honoured with Padma Bhushan by the Indian government in 2011.
Grieving Ghosh's death, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "We offer condolences to his family. We will give him the state honour. I have already directed my Chief Secretary."
