BJP will win over 200 seats in Assembly polls, claims party's Bengal president Dilip Ghosh

Balurghat/UNI: West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh on Friday claimed that they have secured upto 160 seats after the 6th phase poll and the saffron brigade is now heading over 200 seats at the end of 8 phases voting for the 294-seat assembly in the state.

Addressing an electioneering in this south Dinajpur district of north Bengal for party candidate Ashok Kumar Lahiri, former chief economic advisor to the Government of India, Ghosh said it is "Khela Shesh" (Game is over) for the ruling Trinamool Congress.

"BJP has secured the lead into 160 seats (148 is magic figure ) after the six phases of polling and the party is now heading for over 200 seats at the end of 8 phases poll for the 294-seat assembly," Ghosh amid cheers with Jai Shree Ram from the gathering.

"Didi (chief minister Mamata Banerjee) was the striker for the Khela Hobey party but now she is now onto the wheelchair as Nandigram has shown her door for May 2 when the result will be out," Ghosh said.

"The people of the state have been yearning for an immediate change of government in favour of BJP and coming out in large number to elect their representatives with poll percentage over 80 per cent across the state in the six phases poll so far," Ghosh said.

He also alleged that despite negative propaganda by the ruling party and threat perception in the name of Khela Hobey, the people defied the negativity and exercised their citizenship rights in large number, especially by the women and young voters.

Introducing BJP's Balurghat candidate Ashok Kumar Lahiri to the prospective voters, Ghosh welcomed the economist saying Bengal needed such personality into the politics for socio-economy upliftment of the people.

Former Chief Economic Advisor (CEA) to the government of India, Ashok Lahiri, has been given the ticket to contest West Bengal elections from Balurghat.

Meanwhile, the ECI has announced the election to the Samshergunj and Jangipur assembly seats in Mursbidabad to be held on May 16, instead of May 13, and result will be announced on May 19.

Earlier the ECI had adjourned the poll for death of Congress candidate Rezaul Jaque for Samsherjung seat and ESP candidate for Jangipur Pradip Das, both of them died of Covid- 19 on April 15 and April 16 respectively.
