Bengal polls: ECI traces out TMC leader Anubrata Mondal, puts him under surveillance again
Birbhum/West Bengal/IBNS: Nearly two hours after Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal went out of the Election Commission of India (ECI)'s 'eyes', local machineries of the poll body on Wednesday afternoon found the TMC strongman at Tarapith and put him under strict surveillance again, officials said.
Earlier on Tuesday, the ECI had announced to keep Anubrata Mondal under strict surveillance of an executive magistrate and Central forces till 7 am. on Friday (Apr 30) to conduct a free, fair and peaceful election in Birbhum which is scheduled to be held on Thursday (Apr 29).
Later on Wednesday at around 11:40 am, Anubrata along with his convoy reportedly escaped from the ECI's surveillance team.
Local scribes reported that Mondal visited multiple locations across Birbhum, including Nanur, Lavpur, Sainthia, Mallarpur and Tarapith, and interacted with people as well as his party men.
He also changed his vehicle on the way, as per reports.
Later, at around 2 pm, when Mondal was offering prayers at Tarapith Kali Temple, ECI's surveillance unit traced him and put him under 'watch' again.
Meanwhile, following the hide-and-seek episode, the ECI served a stern notice to Anubrata Mondal where he has been asked to stay under the poll body's surveillance and not to attempt to 'disappear' from the ECI's radar again.
