Himanta Biswa Sarma to take oath as new Assam CM tomorrow
Guwahati: Himanta Biswa Sarma will be sworn in as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam on Monday after he was unanimously selected as the leader of Assam BJP Legislative Party on Sunday.
The oath taking ceremony would likely to be held at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati at around 12 noon on Monday in presence of top BJP leaders including party’s national president JP Nadda.
A top source of the Assam state BJP said that 8 MLAs of BJP and its ally parties AGP, UPPL would likely to take oath as cabinet minister on Monday.
After selected as the new leader of BJP Legislative Party Himanta Biswa Sarma along with BJP leaders including outgoing CM Sarbananda Sonowal, state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Union Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar and the leaders of its ally parties Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) met Assam Governor Jagdish Muskhi to stake claim to form the government.
Earlier, Dr Sarma was unanimously selected as the leader of BJP Legislative Party on Sunday during a crucial meeting of the BJP Legislative Party held in Guwahati in presence of Union Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar, BJP’s central leaders Arun Singh, BL Santosh, Ajay Jamwal, Baijayant Jay Panda, Dilip Saikia, state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and other senior leaders of the saffron party.
Sarbananda Sonowal, who had earlier tendered his resignation letter to Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhawan in Guwahati, and state BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass, newly elected BJP MLA Nandita Garlosa had proposed the name of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma as the new leader of BJP Legislative Party and other newly elected BJP MLAs had supported the proposal.
Central observer of the BJP party and Union Agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar had announced that Dr Himanta Sarma has been unanimously selected as the new leader of BJP Legislative Party.
