Srinagar/UNI: An encounter is going on between militants and security forces in the south Kashmir district of Anantnag on Tuesday, a police spokesman said.

He said on a tip-off about the presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) at Vailoo Kokernag in Anantnag district in the wee hours today.

However, when security forces were moving towards a particular area in Vailoo after sealing all exit points, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate fire, he said adding security forces also retaliated ensuing in an encounter.

Militants hiding in the area are being urged to surrender, he said adding the operation was going on when the reports last came in.

Meanwhile, additional security forces and police personnel have been deployed in the adjoining areas to prevent any law and order problem.
