Usanas Foundation to host International Roundtable Conference on “Rethinking India’s Taiwan policy: Prospects for deepening Indo-Taiwan Cooperation” this week
New Delhi: USANAS Foundation is all set to host an international roundtable conference on “Rethinking India’s Taiwan policy: Prospects for deepening Indo-Taiwan Cooperation” on May 21.
"The Indian establishment has always looked at Taiwan through a Chinese prism. India has followed a ‘One China policy,’ though not a ‘One-China principle’ even though till 2008 we have used it interchangeably," the foundation said in a statement.
"It is primarily the fear of the adverse effect on India-China relations that India formally acknowledges that there is only one Chinese government, the People’s Republic of China (PRC)," it said.
"However, the changed geopolitical scenario and an increasingly aggressive China have forced India to rethink its policy and recalibrate ties with China," Usanas Foundation said.
"There is also a greater appreciation towards Taiwan which in many ways is a natural partner for New Delhi as both the countries share democratic values, uphold human rights and the rule of law, and recognise the benefits of a rules-based international order," read the statement.
The upcoming conference explores growing convergence in the India-Taiwan relations against the backdrop of the changing geopolitics of the Indo-Pacific region as the U.S.-China rivalry intensifies.
It will explore policy-oriented solutions identifying areas for greater engagement between the countries to ensure more fruitful India-Taiwan relations.
The conference proceedings will be collated and shared with government officers, policy experts, think tanks, and journalists.
