New Delhi/IBNS: The Delhi Police have arrested India's two-time Olympic medal-winning wrestler Sushil Kumar in connection with a murder case of a fellow wrestler, media reports said on Sunday.

Sushil Kumar, who was absconding for days, was arrested along with an associate from Mundka area in the national capital on Sunday morning.

His associate, Ajay Kumar, who is also an accused in the murder case, was also arrested in the raid.

"A team of Special Cell SR led by Inspector Shivkumar, Inspector Karambir and supervised by ACP Attar Singh has arrested Sushil Kumar and Ajay from Mundka area of Delhi in connection with the killing of 23-year-old Sagar Rana at Chhatrasal Stadium. Wrestler Sushil Kumar has been arrested by a team of Special Cell," Neeraj Thakur, Special CP-Special Cell, was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

Kumar was earlier denied anticipatory bail by a Delhi court in the murder case of 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankad.

A non-bailable warrant was issued against the Olympic medalist. The police had even announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information about his whereabouts.

Kumar, who is from Najafgarh's Baprola village, is India's only world champion (2010) in wrestling, till date. The grappler is also the only player to win two Olympic medals in an individual capacity.

Earlier, police had issued a lookout circular against him for allegedly beating to death 23-year-old wrestler Sagar Dhankad and thrashing his two friends in Chhatrasal Stadium on the night of May 4.

Dhankad succumbed to his injuries in a hospital while his friend Sonu, who had been injured, named Kumar and his aides as the assaulters.

The deceased athlete is the son of a Delhi Police head constable, the reports added.

The fight broke out over a flat in Model Town which was owned by Kumar but Dhankad was living in it, police found in preliminary investigation.

The lookout notice was issued on May 9, six days after the incident, informed the media reports.

Police said the brawl involved Kumar, Ajay, Prince Dalal, Sonu, Sagar, Amit and others.

A case under sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act was registered at the Model Town Police Station, media reported.

Police earlier arrested Dalal (24), who is a resident of Jhajjar.

They also recovered a video from Dalal's phone in which Kumar and his friends can be seen thrashing Dhankad and his friends Sonu and Amit Kumar, a Times of India report.
