7th Vibrant Gujarat Summit kicked off, global leaders laud Modi

Gandhinagar, Jan 11 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was also the former chief minister of Gujarat, on Sunday is eyeing to draw massive investments for the state in the seventh Vibrant Gujarat Summit amid the presence of several world leaders including United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry and 50 CEOs of top Indian as well as international companies.
The Summit, which is now in its seventh edition, was inaugurated by state Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.
 
This is a flagship programme of the Gujarat government.
 
Speaking at the Summit, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) chief Mukesh Ambani said that his company will invest Rs 1 lakh crore in Gujarat.
 
He lauded Modi for starting the Summit.
 
"Gujarat is a place I fondly call home," said Ambani adding, "His (Modi's) digital India programme have energised India."
 
"We will invest over a hundred thousand crore in the next 12-18 months in Gujarat to contribute in Make in India and Digital India programmes."
 
Aditya Birla Group Chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla in his address said, "Gujarat is the preferred business destination for our company."
 
"Clear cut policies, high speed administration evident in Gujarat," said he.
 
World Bank Chairman Jim Yong Kim also addressed the Vibrant Gujarat Summit and said he wants to see a "vibrant India" rapidly eradicating poverty.
 
"Rapid progress essential for eradicating poverty. We want to see a vibrant India in addition to a vibrant Gujarat," Kim said during his address.
 
He also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his focus on inclusive growth.
 
"There should be increasing access to healthcare and education to improve human capital," the World Bank Chairman said.
 
"World Bank and Indian government to partner on various issues," he asserted.
 
He hoped India can be a leader in guiding world leaders to the end of poverty.
 
Ban Ki-Moon in his address appreciated Modi for exhibiting a forward looking leadership.
 
"We laud Indian government's efforts in using more renewable energy," said he.
 
The three-day summit is being held amid tight security as several world leaders are attending the event.
 
The inauguration ceremony in being attended by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry and 50 CEOs of top Indian as well as international companies.
 
Several ministers from Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada and over 50 CEOs of top Indian as well as international companies are also participating in the summit.
 
The summit is a day three-day affair and will conclude on Jan 13.
