Vibrant Guj is not just a meeting of ideas, but also of aspirations: Modi
Gandhinagar, Jan 11 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is eyeing to draw massive investments in the seventh Vibrant Gujarat Summit amid the presence of several world leaders including United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon and US Secretary of State John Kerry, on Sunday said "this is not just a meeting of ideas, but also of aspirations."
He started his speech by expressing his solidarity with the people of France in light of the recent Charlie Hedbo tragedy in Paris.
He said, "India has always believed that the whole world is one family. We are here as a family."
Modi, who preached for inclusive growth in the Summit, said this event stands for the "inclusiveness of small with big, rich with poor, gut-feelings with mature thoughts."
"My Government is committed to improving the quality of life in India," claimed the Prime Minister.
While announcing his several business-friendly initiatives like that of a stable tax policy, Modi said, " IMF has said India will be 2nd fastest economy in coming years."
"We are backing our commitments with concrete action. I announced financial inclusion and in four months we have opened 100 million accounts," asserted the Prime Minister.
"I announced modern railways and immediately we opened up 100% FDI in railway investment to lead this surge," he noted.
Modi said he wants "to promote co-operative federalism in the country."
"At the same time, we want a competitive element among the states," added he.
"In the last few months we have focused on infrastructure through public and private investments. It includes rural infra and 24x7 power supply," said he.
In an attempt to woo global investors, Modi said, "We have the trifecta of favorable democracy, demography and demand. You will not find this anywhere else in the world," said he.
"Government of India is working towards implementing single window clearance system. There are immense possibilities for global investors in India," he claimed.
He asserted the global investors that India's aspirations "can propel your ambition. The government assures you to hold your hand and go beyond."
"On behalf of government let me assure you, we will be available to hold your hands," the PM committed.
He promised that his government will work on "ease of doing business in India."
"We have made commitments to our people. We have made commitments to ourselves. We have made commitments for India’s great future," he added.
Earlier, in the day, United States Secretary of state John Kerry addressed the seventh edition of Vibrant Gujarat Summit and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made the name of Gujarat synonymous with change and possibilities.
"Narendra Modi has made the name of Gujarat synonymous with change and possibilities," said he, adding that he was "privileged" to have come here.
"Moment has never been more right to tap the incredible possibilities between our two shared countries," Kerry said.
The US Secretary of state said India can help forge an era of peace and growth across Asia.
"Here is the truth: we can do more together, we must do more and we have to do it faster," said he.
He also informed that US President Barack Obama is excited to be the first President of the United States to be the Chief Guest of India on Republic Day.
Lauding Modi further, Kerry said: "I am highly impressed by PM Narendra Modi's slogan - 'Participation of all, Development of all."
"US and India are two countries defined by our commitment to Freedom," added he.
United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in his address appreciated Modi for exhibiting a forward looking leadership.
"We laud Indian government's efforts in using more renewable energy," said he.
World Bank Chairman Jim Yong Kim also addressed the Vibrant Gujarat Summit and said he wants to see a "vibrant India" rapidly eradicating poverty.
"Rapid progress essential for eradicating poverty. We want to see a vibrant India in addition to a vibrant Gujarat," Kim said during his address.
He also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his focus on inclusive growth.
"There should be increasing access to healthcare and education to improve human capital," the World Bank Chairman said.
"World Bank and Indian government to partner on various issues," he asserted.
He hoped India can be a leader in guiding world leaders to the end of poverty.
The three-day summit is being held amid tight security as several world leaders are attending the event.
The inauguration ceremony in being attended by United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry and 50 CEOs of top Indian as well as international companies.
Several ministers from Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada and over 100 countries representatives are also participating in the summit.
The summit is a day three-day affair and will conclude on Jan 13.
