Maharashtra: Sikh women stage sit in demonstration

Nanded/UNI: Sikh women staged a sit-in protest on Monday demanding withdrawal of the charges filed against the innocent people in connection with the Halla Bol (mock attack).

The ‘Dharna Andolan’ was started with the blessings of Sachkhand Gurudwara Takht Chief Jathedar Singh Sahib. Sant Baba Balwinder Singh, Jathedar of Gurudwara Langar Sahib, was also present on the occasion.

“We strongly condemn the March 29 attack on the police administration and destruction of government property initiated by some anti-social elements”, states the petition handed over to the Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray through the District Collector demanding withdrawal of charges filed against the innocent people in the case.

It has been claimed in the petition that the names of innocent people were included in the case by misleading a senior police officer. The Collector had assured in his address to the Peace Committee that no case would be filed against any innocent person. But 90 days after the incident, the police did not follow the promise, the delegation claimed.

"There is widespread discontent and fear in the community," the petition added and demanded a high level inquiry into the incident and action should be taken against the guilty persons and the innocent person should be released. The petition is signed by Premjit Kaur Kolhapure, Neelam Kaur Pujari, Mandeep Kaur, Guruprasad Kaur, Priyanka Kaur Dukandar and other 70 women from the Sikh community.
