Punjab: Akali MP Naresh Gujral calls Kejriwal's promise of 300 free units of power 'outrageous'

Chandigarh/IBNS: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MP Naresh Gujral has raised doubt over Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal's poll promise of 300 free units of power to Punjab voters, calling it "outrageous".

Gujral made the comment in an interaction with The Times of India.

In the same model which he followed during Delhi elections in 2020, Kejriwal, who is presently the Delhi Chief Minister, on Tuesday promised uninterrupted power, free electricity up to 300 units and waiver on previous bills if his party captures power in Punjab due to be polled early next year.

"Three big steps will be taken after the AAP forms government in Punjab. I am making three announcements. First, the AAP government in Punjab will give free electricity up to 300 units. Second, all pending bills will be waived off. Third, electricity will be provided 24 hours like we did in Delhi."

Taunting Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, he said, "This is Kejriwal's guarantee and not Captain's promises..." and added, "The AAP government will waive electricity charges up to 300 units immediately after its formation."

Though Kejriwal had promised free schemes in the last assembly elections as well, the AAP's electoral journey in Punjab was stopped at 20 seats while the Congress formed the government ousting the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) government.

But the political scenario has changed since then as the BJP and SAD have parted their ways while the Congress is suffering an infighting.

After breaking up with the BJP, the SAD has stitched an alliance with Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) for the upcoming elections.
