Fake COVID vaccination camp: BJP holds protest march in Kolkata, scuffles with police

Kolkata/IBNS: The BJP on Monday scuffled with the police while holding a protest match here against a recently busted fake COVID-19 vaccination drive carried out by a person who impersonated as an IAS officer in Kolkata.

The BJP held the march accusing the TMC government of playing a 'deaf-and-dumb' role when the fake IAS, named Debanjan Deb, was holding multiple mask-sanitizer distribution camps and fake vaccination drives across Kolkata and its adjoining areas.

The BJP had called the march from Hind Cinema to Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) headquarter at city's downtown Esplanade area.

As the rally was being held without Kolkata Police's permission amid the pandemic, police stopped the protest march on Central Avenue near Hindustan Building.

BJP leader-supporters reportedly engaged in a scuffle with the police force after the rally was stopped.

Police detained several protesters from the location while BJP claimed that few of their activists fell sick during the scuffle with cops.

West Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said that their movements against the fake vaccination will be strengthened.

"People of the city are being given fake COVID vaccines in front of the very eyes of Kolkata Corporation, government and police, and we were taking the voice of the general people to the KMC through a peaceful rally, police took action against us," Dilip Ghosh said.
