New Delhi: Notwithstanding the disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the cooperation between India and Bangladesh has continued to flourish in all areas of the bilateral relationship, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said.

“I am glad that follow-up discussion and initiatives have taken place despite these disruptions,” Modi said in a letter to his Bangladesh counterpart  Sheikh Hasina.

“I reiterate our government’s commitment to progressing our mutually beneficial cooperation,” the Indian prime minister said in the letter.

“Please accept, Excellency, the renewed assurances of my highest consideration,” he added.

In the July 5 letter, Modi thanked Hasina for the gift of Haribhanga mangoes she sent last week.

Modi said he was “touched” by  Hasina’s “thoughtful gesture.”

“It was a pleasant reminder of your hospitality in Dhaka extended to me during my recent visit to Bangladesh,” he said.

Hasina sent the mangoes as presents to Modi, West Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and a few other leaders in the neighboring country.

A truck carrying 2,600 kg of the Haribhanga variety of mangoes, grown in the Rangpur region, crossed the India-Bangladesh border through the Benapole port in Jessore district, Dhaka Tribune reported.

Mamata Banerjee thanked Prime Minister Hasina for the gift in a letter, saying: “I respect your affection and the fragrance of Bangladesh, which came through the mangoes. I am truly impressed.”
