Lucknow/IBNS: Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi said on Sunday that the party is ready to forge alliance with an open mind for Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022.

"I do not rule out (alliance). We are absolutely not closed-minded. We are having an open mind," said Vadra. "Our aim is to defeat the BJP," she was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

She also urged other parties to keep an open mind, apparently appealing to all anti-BJP forces to set aside their differences and form a coalition to defeat BJP in the 2022 assembly polls.

Vadra emphasised that much work has been done to strengthen party organisation though silently and added that it continues to be her focus.

"We have done the maximum work during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can see that we are the ones who have raised issues. Congress is no longer confined to garlanding photographs. Our party has been out of power for 30-32 years, and it has become weak. However, full efforts have been made, and a lot of energy has come (into the party)," the Congress general secretary added, according to the report.

She met with senior Congress leaders of Uttar Pradesh, UP Congress chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, co-incharge of Uttar Pradesh Dheeraj Gurjar, party spokesperson Ashok Singh and Naseemuddin Siddiqui.

“We are hopeful that her visit will help in gearing up the party organisation for the 2022 UP assembly elections,” a senior leader of the party said on Friday, when Vadra visited party headquarters in Lucknow, the HT report said.

The report said the entire UP Congress was rallying behind Vadra hoping that her canvassing will help transform the party's fortune in

Vadra has also maintained silence on whether she will be the party's chief ministerial face for the upcoming polls.
