Modi said that with this feat, they have captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially our youth.
In a tweet, the Prime Minister said: "Historic! A day that will be etched in the memory of every Indian. Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for bringing home the Bronze. With this feat, they have captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially our youth. India is proud of our Hockey team."

Meanwhile, his conversation with the Indian men's hockey team skipper has gone viral in social media.
In the call, Modi could be heard saying that the entire country is proud of the team and the players.
To which, Singh said his statement after the team's loss to Belgium, was very motivating and inspirational.

"We want to thank the PM. He called (after the semi-final defeat) and spoke to the entire team and asked us to remain positive and focus on the next match. He said the entire country is with you” said Manpreet after India’s historic bronze medal win against Germany.," Singh later told mediapersons.
After India's defeat at the hands of Belgium in the semi finals, PM Modi had tweeted: "Wins and losses are a part of life. Our Men’s Hockey Team at #Tokyo2020 gave their best and that is what counts. Forty-one years after their last medal in the Olympics, India won a bronze medal in men’s hockey in the same tournament here Thursday.
India won the medal defeating Germany 5-4 in a nail-biting match.
The two teams were fighting for the bronze medal.
After storming into the semifinals, India were defeated by Belgium in the race to the final.
