Three held for breaching Tripura CM Biplab Deb's security cover
Agartala/IBNS: Three men were arrested on charges of attempted murder and other allegations after they allegedly penetrated the double security cordon of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb in a vehicle.
On Thursday night, Deb was out on his regular evening walk when the vehicle barged into the security area, according to an Indian Express report.
The report said Deb leapt aside while one of his security officials sustained injuries while trying to stop the vehicle.
The accused were arrested and sent to 14 days of judicial custody. The court permitted the investigating officer to interrogate the three men in custody for two days during this time, Assistant Public Prosecutor Bidyut Sutradhar told, Indian Express.
Biplab Deb is protected by Z+ security after he got life threats from Myanmar-based international drug mafia in 2018 for crackdown on drug cartels in Tripura, stated the report.
“Police personnel on the outer cordon tried to stop them but they violated the orders. They violated orders from the inner cordon as well and engaged in rash driving with the CM at close quarters. The CM’s security from his tail car detained the vehicle along with the people inside after a chase,” West Tripura Superintendent of Police Manik Das was quoted as saying Indian Express.
The three men were identified as Subham Saha (27), Aman Saha (25) and Goirik Ghosh (24), the report said.
Police have pressed charges of rash driving, obstructing the duty of government servants, wilfully injuring public servants and attempt to murder and produced before a local court Friday, it added.
Police said they are investigating all angles of the case, including possibilities of setting a target on the CM's life.
