Karnataka portfolio allocation: CM Basavaraj Bommai keeps finance, sacrifices water resources

Bengaluru/UNI: Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot on Saturday announced the list of the portfolios allocated to the new ministers with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai keeping Finance and Bengaluru Development instead of Water Resources which he had held previously.

As many as 15 ministers who were a part of previous dispensation have retained their portfolios, but most surprising of all were the allocation of portfolios to first-time ministers - Aaraga Jnanendra and Sunil Kumar.

Jnanedra and Kumar have been given home and energy ministries, respectively. Both are affiliated to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

The former has also been given the additional charge of Kannada and Culture Minister.

Yet another first timer BC Nagesh was allocated primary education which has gained importance during Covid lockdown.

Bommai has however sacrificed his favourite water resources portfolio to Govind Karjol. Bommai has a good hold over the portfolio as he had handled the ministry with aplomb in the past.

He has kept Finance and Bengaluru Development portfolios with him. It is not a surprise because normally Karnataka chief ministers keep these portfolios with them. Even the previous chief minister Yediyurappa had held these posts.
