Pro-Khalistan group Sikhs for Justice threatens Yogi Adityanath won't be allowed to hoist tricolour on Independence Day
Lucknow/IBNS: Police went on alert after pro-Khalistan group - Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) - threatened on Friday that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would not be allowed to hoist the tricolour on Independence Day, according to media reports.
The Uttar Pradesh Police received an audio message from an international phone number warning the Chief Minister against hoisting the national flag and shutting down thermal plants across the state, a report in The Pioneer said.
According to the report, the audio message is in the name of SFJ's Gurpatwant Singh Pannun and even said that the western areas in Uttar Pradesh - Saharanpur to Rampur - will be taken over by the Khalistanis.
ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar has said the police were trying to track the source of the call and check the authenticity of the audio. He did not rule out that the call could be a mischief but assured a speedy and thorough probe.
Earlier, similar threat calls were received against Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.
The man behind these calls, who identified himself as Pannu, has been charged with sedition by Himachal Pradesh Police.
It may be noted that US-based SFJ advocates Sikh referendum 2020 and openly supports the cause of Khalistan and challenges the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India.
