New Delhi/IBNS: Former Congress MP from Assam's Silchar Sushmita Dev resigned as her party member, triggering speculations over her next political destination.

Dev Sunday sent her resignation letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi offering no reason behind her decision.

As per a report by NDTV, Dev is likely to join West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's party Trinamool Congress (TMC).

She might become the TMC's face in Assam where Banerjee's party is aiming to keep its footprint.

The former Congress leader might fly to Kolkata to meet Mamata Banerjee, her nephew and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee.

Dev, the daughter of veteran Bengali Congress leader Santosh Mohan Dev, was an MLA from Silchar between 2011 and 2014 and she was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2014.

She was also the president of All India Mahila Congress.
