Assam issues new COVID-19 SOPs, allows opening religious places

Guwahati/IBNS: The Assam government on Tuesday has issued a new COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), easing some relaxations in the restrictions being imposed to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus infection.

The revised and consolidated directive has been issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) for both rural and urban areas and it will come into effect from 5 am of August 18.

As per the new SOP, the night curfew in all the districts of Assam will remain effective from 7 pm to 5 am.

According to the new SOP, inter-district movement for private vehicles and movement of people will be allowed except and from Kamrup (Metro) district. Inter-district public transport will remain suspended.

“Night curfew time will be from 7 pm to 5 am across the state. The physical classes in respect of the final year of Graduate/Post-Graduate Engineering/Medical Colleges, GNM, Nursing courses and that of Aeronautical Engineering College will be allowed to be started with fully vaccinated students,” said in the SOP.

The new SOP stated that, religious places are allowed to open with up to 20 fully vaccinated persons per hour for iconic places and 10 fully vaccinated persons per hour for other religious places.

According to the new SOP, meeting/gathering at any open or closed spaces is allowed up to 200 persons in open spaces (for public function) and up to 50 percent of the hall capacity or 200 fully vaccinated persons whichever is lower in closed venues, functions related to national/international days the ceiling will be upto 50 percent capacity of the hall, public gathering is allowed up to 25 persons for marriage/funeral programme.

On the other hand, the Assam government has issued another order and said that, all incoming passengers, who have been vaccinated with two doses of COVID-19 vaccines and possess such certificate, on production of the same in front of screening authority, shall be exempted from mandatory testing on arrival at airports, railway stations, road border points etc, in Assam provided they also possess a negative COVID-19 test report of samples taken within 72 hours of their arrival in Assam.

Assam on Monday had reported 758 new COVID-19 positive cases and 10 deaths.
