Srinagar/UNI: Despite a significant decline in the number of COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir, the administration on Sunday extended the suspension of classwork in all educational institutes -- including schools, colleges, and universities -- till further order in the Union Territory.
The administration said that it will consider phased re-opening of institutes where 100 per cent vaccination of staff and students has been achieved.
As many as 107 people, including 62 from Kashmir and 45 from Jammu, tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday in the Union Territory, where there are only 1165 active positive cases.
An order issued by the J&K Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, in his capacity as the Chairperson of State Executive Committee of the State Disaster Management Authority, said that all schools and higher educational institutes, including coaching centers, shall continue to remain closed for in-person teaching till further order.
However, it said that educational institutes are permitted to seek personal attendance of limited vaccinated staff for administrative purposes.
The order further said that there will be no weekend curfew in any district though night curfew will continue to remain in force across the Union Territory from 2000 hrs to 0700 hrs.
It said the maximum number of people permitted to attend any indoor or outdoor gathering has been restricted to 25. “All District Magistrates and Superintendent of Police (SP) shall ensure strict compliance to it,” the order said.
