MiG 21 fighter aircraft of IAF crashes in Rajasthan's Barmer, pilot ejected out safe

Barmer/IBNS: A MiG 21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (AIF) crashed at Barmer in Rajasthan during a training mission on Wednesday.

The pilot of the Bison aircraft was ejected safely, officials said.

The accident happened around 5:30 PM during a training sortie after the aircraft experienced a technical malfunction after take off.

A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause.

In a tweet, the IAF said: "At around 1730 hrs today, an IAF MiG-21 Bison aircraft airborne for a training sortie in the western sector, experienced a technical malfunction after take off. The pilot ejected safely. A Court of Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause."

Pictures shared by a Twitter handle called Indian Defence showed smoke rising from a hut which caught fire, and also the pilot lying on the ground in the village after being taken to safety.
