New Delhi/UNI: Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has called for a countrywide strike on September 25 to intensify their ongoing protest against farm laws, the association announced on Saturday.

The SKM also announced a Mahapanchayat in Muzaffarnagar on September 5 where they will unveil their Mission Uttar Pradesh-Uttarakhand and as such the association plans to take down to the grassroots of both the states with a motive to ensure the defeat of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is in power in UP and Uttarakhand.

The SKM said it plans to form joint committees in all states and districts to ensure a pan-India expansion and intensification of their "farmers' struggle".

The decisions were taken during a two-day convention held at the Singhu Border protest site to mark the nine months of their agitation against the farm laws.

"The National Convention was held on August 26-27 at the Singhu Border near Delhi amidst great enthusiasm. August 26 marked the completion of nine months of the historic farmers' struggle. Over 2000 delegates from hundreds of organisations from 22 states attended this convention," the association said.

"The convention was inaugurated by farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, who reaffirmed the resolve of farmers to continue the peaceful protest till all the demands are met. Dr Ashish Mittal, Convenor of the Organising Committee, placed the main draft resolution calling for intensification and expansion of the struggle until the three Farm Laws are repealed, the Electricity Amendment Bill is withdrawn, and legal guarantee to an MSP @ C2 + 50 per cent is given," it added.
