BJP to name Kiran Bedi as Delhi CM candidate?

New Delhi, Jan 18 (IBNS): While media reports are saying that former top cop Kiran Bedi, who recently joined the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), will be named the Chief Ministerial candidate for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, the party has said that no decision has been taken yet.

According to reports, BJP's parliamentary board will take the decision on the Delhi CM candidate.

Bedi, who is set to contest the next month’s election in Delhi, earlier said she is ready to take on Aam Admi Party (AAP) chief Kejriwal no matter if she wins or lose.

“I am ready to fight Kejriwal directly in his constituency. I don’t care if I lose,” said Bedi.

Bedi on Thursday joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the national capital in the presence of party President Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Bedi, who was earlier associated with Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement, is likely to be pitted against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal from New Delhi constituency in the Assembly elections.

The retired IPS (Indian Police Service) officer explained her decision to enter politics as the “revival of hope” generated by the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Bedi also told NDTV: “Life evolves...changes. I admire him (Pm Modi) as an administrator.”

Asked whether her name will be declared as its presumptive chief minister against Kejriwal, she said that it was for the party (BJP) to decide.

On Thursday, she also lauded PM Modi for his “outstanding leadership”.

“I have never worked for owning a house or a car. I dedicated myself to the nation's service and I have 40 years of administrative experience, which now I want to dedicate to the people…I want to give Delhi a strong, stable Government that will involve all sections of people in development work,” she had said.
