Narada sting case: ED files charge sheet against 3 TMC heavyweights, one former minister, an IPS officer
Kolkata/IBNS: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday filed a charge sheet before a special court in Kolkata in connection with its ongoing probe into the Narada sting case, officials said.
According to sources in the ED, Bengal ministers Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee, TMC MLA Madan Mitra, former Kolkata Mayor and ex-minister Sovan Chatterjee, and suspended IPS officer S.M.H. Mirza have been named in the charge sheet where they have been framed under sections 3 and 4 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).
The ED has also issued summons to all these five persons asking them to appear before the court on Nov 16.
"Summons will be sent directly to Sovan Chatterjee and S.M.H. Mirza while three MLAs- Madan Mitra, Firhad Hakim and Subrata Mukherjee- will be summoned through the speaker of West Bengal Legislative Assembly," an ED official said.
The Central economic intelligence agency has also sought permission from the court to continue its investigation against other heavyweight leaders, including Mukul Roy, Suvendu Adhikari, Iqbal Ahmed, Aparupa Podder, Sougata Roy, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Prasun Banerjee, and some other unknown persons in Narada sting case.
Earlier in May, CBI had filed its charge sheet in connection with the same case naming Subrata Mukherjee, Firhad Hakim, Madan Mitra, Sovan Chatterjee and IPS Mirza, and arrested the four political leaders.
The four heavyweights were granted conditional bails later.
