Punjab Congress | Navjot Sidhu Congress likely to tame defiant Sidhu by activating 'Plan B'
Chandigarh/IBNS: The Congress high command is working on a "Plan B" to appoint a new Punjab Congress chief after Navjot Sidhu stepped down from the post, sending a clear message that no one is indispensable to the party, according to media reports.
NDTV reported citing sources that the Gandhis will only go so far to mollify Sidhu, whom they backed against stalwart Amarinder Singh.
If Sidhu remains defiant and turns down offers of reconciliation, the party may not pursue him endlessly to review his decision and is likely to consider two-time MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra or party MP Ravneet Singh Bittu for the role.
Sidhu's resignation sent fresh ripples even as the turmoil in Punjab Congress seemed to end with the appointment of a new chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
While the infighting within the Punjab Congress is far from over, former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh's presence in Delhi has fuelled speculations.
Reports suggest that he may meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP chief JP Nadda, according to NDTV.
So far, Singh has maintained that his visit to Delhi is anything but "personal".
With growing differences and endless fights between the party heavyweights, Congress is plunged into chaos while its rival Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is aggressively campaigning for the Punjab polls.
